IT TOOK SOME TIME…

Yesterday debuted the first single of my side project “Mahatma Candy”

Mahatma Candy is a tale of two friends from childhood. For me and my friend Santiago, creating music has always been about having fun, experimenting, and creating moods that could appeal different audiences without limitation on style and genre.

We both, have different musical backgrounds and production styles, and it’s precisely this fusion what creates our sound.

The band produces electronic music using real instruments, with jazzy and funky vibes in traditional composition and production techniques. All of this, blended with the circuitry-based music technology of electronic genres.

We have been making music since we were teenagers and we had different projects, we even ended up at one point playing flamenco gigs in hotels around town.

Later on we took different roads as musicians but we have been seeing each other all the time during the years as you do with your best friend. Around 2006, we wrote around 4 tracks with this project in mind. We were called Opium back then. Yes I’m talking about the My Space era.

This project got on hold for many years for different professional reasons but now during the pandemia, even we are now located in different countries, we decided it was time to debut and pursuit also a career for this band.

For Mahatma Candy is all about the quality of music and the experimentation creating it, to deliver only the tracks that we would like to listen to in our own playlists.

Santiago has been producing electronic music for quite some time, while I have been as you know more into jazz, funk and rock. And God knows everything sounds good with a little jazz and funk on top! Lol. Now seriously, it’s amazing for an artist like me with a very ambiental guitar style to lay textures and rhythms into powerful electronic beats. Results are great in my opinion.

Santiago is our resident beat Master. He lays down the bass drum, and the hats with elegance and style. I’m more into the melodic department, with synths, guitars and of course, electric bass. The results is classy tracks every single time regardless of your cup of tea.

Sotavento is a nautical word means leeward. In other words the direction toward the wind is blowing. The song starts with a gorgeous beat in the reminiscence of a heart beat, layered with very cool atmospheric sounds opening for the funky guitar rhythms conducting the song into something different and at the time familiar. It’s a very cool song in my opinion. The one you wont get tired listening to.

At the moment we are working in our next release, hopefully before the end of the year.
